As animal lovers, we can’t help but want to spend all of our time with our pets, with them reciprocating the notion the majority of the time.
Whilst we always have good intentions, we can often act based upon what best suits us, sometimes favouring our needs over those of our pets.
It’s easily done – we know that we’ve been guilty – but it does lead us to ask…
Is Your Lifestyle Making Your Cat Feel Stressed?
Pet owners often regard dogs as the more demanding, committed animal, whilst cats are seen to be fine to be left alone for a while every now and again.
Here Are The Signs Of Stress That You Should Look Out For In Your Cat:
As the second most popular pet in the UK, millions of households have a pet cat, and their appeal is easy to see. It also means, however, that there is a higher number of pets to become stressed.
So, in a bid to make owners more aware…
Silent Sufferers
The first thing to know is that cats are silent sufferers, meaning that you’ll have to be particularly in tune with them to recognise that something’s wrong.
Whereas dogs will become visibly distressed and show clear signs that something is wrong, cats will just become slightly more withdrawn – which, for animals that sleep for 3/4 of the day, may be more difficult to recognise.
So, it’s vital that you engage with your cat and, if their temperament changes, do something about it.
Make Accommodations
One factor that could be affecting your cat is the composition of your house.
Depending on the layout of your home, it’s a good idea to have some of your cat’s possessions in all of the rooms that they commonly go in. This will help them to feel settled and happy.
If you haven’t already done this, take the opportunity to switch things up and cater to your cat’s needs.
Help One Another
Your relationship with your cat is a two-way thing, so you should definitely be in tune with them.
In the same way that they’ll pick up on shifts in your mood and step in to try and help, it’s up to you to recognise the signs in them and try to make a change.
Don’t be too proud to admit that there’s something wrong – the sooner that you admit it, the sooner it can be sorted.
Pay Attention
Finally, you’ll need to look to yourself to see if you can do anything to help the situation.
We all have busy lives, with work, family, and social commitments often getting in the way of the time that we’d like to spend with our pets. Social media, however, is a major issue that can often lead to animals feeling neglected and isolated.
So, put the phone down, usher them over for a cuddle and give them some proper TLC!
