Getting your pet microchipped is one thing, but which database should you register your pet to?
There are 16 government-approved national pet microchip databases in the UK and all of them offer a wide range of services from basic chip registration to comprehensive lost pet reunification services. Of course, you’ll also have to consider the cost of membership. Selecting a pet database seems like a very complicated task for pet owners, but not to worry, we’re here to help. We’ve listed all the pet authorised databases in the UK and the services each of them offer so you know what to expect when you register your pet with any of them.
Before we go over our list of databases, it is important that we understand the significance of microchipping and how keeping your pet details up to date helps with pet reunification.
Why should I get my pet microchipped and registered?
Every year, thousands of pets go missing, and many are never found because they are not chipped or their microchip information is outdated and they do not have other means of identification, like ID tags. Getting your pet microchipped and registering it to an authorised database gives you a better chance of being reunited with your lost pet once they are found.
It is also your responsibility to keep your pet’s microchip information up to date, for example, if you move house or change your contact details. This makes it easier for database companies to facilitate the reunification of missing pets.
