Pastoral Dog Breeds

Pastoral breeds were bred to help herd livestock. They were selectively bred for agility, stamina, and natural herding instincts.

There are some distinct differences between the breeds though depending on where they were bred. For example, the Border Collie was bred to work on the expansive fells of the Scottish borders, while the smaller Shetland Sheepdogs, are more compact to work on the less expansive areas of the Shetland Isles.

Corgis, on the other hand, were bred with shorter legs, ideally suited to work as heelers, that round-up livestock by nipping at their heels
