Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever

The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is a unique breed of dog, originating in the early 19th century in Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia. It is the smallest of the retrievers, and is known for its intelligence, loyalty, and playful nature.

The breed was developed by hunters to lure waterfowl within gunshot range. The Toller would run, jump, and play along the shoreline, enticing curious ducks to come closer. Once the ducks were close enough, the hunter would shoot them.

The breed was officially recognized by the Canadian Kennel Club in 1945. Since then, the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever has become a popular family pet, as well as a successful show dog. Its intelligence and eagerness to please make it an ideal companion for active families.

The Toller is an energetic breed that loves to play and needs plenty of exercise. It is also an excellent swimmer and retriever, making it a great choice for those who enjoy outdoor activities. With its friendly and outgoing personality, the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is sure to bring joy to any home.
