Coombe Abbey

Coombe Abbey is understandably a firm favourite with locals and despite it being the most well-known on the list, it is definitely worth a mention when it comes to dog-friendly Coventry! The 500 acres of this historic country estate are just waiting to be explored with your four-legged friend.

Picnics and BBQs (in the designated BBQ area) are welcome and there is an array of activities to choose from, including feeding the lake’s birds, admiring the abbey’s immaculate gardens, and clambering around the play area, so it’s easy to spend an entire day at Coombe with the whole family or just your furry companion.

Most of the park requires dogs to be kept on lead (in order to protect the outstanding wildlife in the grounds) but maps will direct you to the huge areas of land where they can be exercised off-lead.

Ryton Pools

If you’re in need of some country air and wouldn’t mind a spot of birdwatching, why not head slightly out of town to Ryton pools? A short country drive through picturesque Warwickshire will lead you to the nature reserve, complete with well-maintained pathways around the water and through the woodland, various children’s play areas, and a café with some very tasty light bites (and an ice cream stand, of course). Dogs are very welcome at Ryton but do make sure that you have a lead at the ready for those very tempting picnic areas!

The Greyhound Inn

The Greyhound Inn has been reviewed as ‘The Best Dog-Friendly Pub Ever’ on Tripadvisor and it isn’t hard to see why. Tucked away at Sutton Stop on the outskirts of Coventry, right on the canal, the Greyhound offers county pub style with restaurant-quality food and drink (it has even won a CAMRA award if you ale lovers need convincing). Whether it’s a light lunch or a hearty meal you’re after, you won’t be disappointed. They also boast a lovely enclosed beer garden where your pooch can sniff the air, and are situated right on the canal path – perfect for an afternoon stroll to walk off lunch and make some doggy friends!

The Broomfield Tavern

Another CAMRA award winner, this hidden gem is run by people who love dogs as much as they love real ale. Every dog patron receives a bowl of water and treats on arrival and if they love a fuss, they’ll get plenty from the staff and regulars who are huge dog lovers. The pub has a lovely relaxed country vibe despite being near the city centre, with a traditional log burner and a cosy 150-year-old interior. However, the Broomfield is far from quiet all the time and hosts live music and performance events every weekend as well as pub quizzes every Wednesday, so you’ll definitely be kept entertained while you sample the extraordinary range of ales, ciders and perries. If you didn’t think it could get better, they are situated right next to the Butt’s Park with a patch of greenery to give your dog some exercise before you relax with a pint!

Fargo Village

If you fancy a bit of a change from county-style pubs but still want your pooch to be welcome, Coventry’s Fargo Village could be the perfect place for you. The hip new spot has been compared to Manchester’s Northern Quarter and boasts an array of artsy shops, trendy cafes, and even its own microbrewery! Dogs are more than welcome on leads and can join in on the fun while you go vintage bargain hunting, meet friends for a coffee, or sample the newest craft ales!
