Many pet owners face the dilemma as to whether to get a cat or dog, with the false belief that the two are totally incompatible – which, by the way, is not the case… Whilst scientists have finally settled the age old debate as to which of the UK’s two most popular pets is the smartest, it seems that behind all of the apparent rivalry they secretly have a lot of love for each other!
After discovering seven abandoned kittens in a cardboard box while out in the woods, this Husky has taken up the role of ‘mum’ – and they’re the perfect family!
Upon taking the kittens home, the dog, named Banner, has insisted on cleaning, cuddling and napping with them, after finding them freezing out in the middle of the woods. She has since taken up full care of the cats.
Banner’s owner has admitted that she doesn’t know how the Husky knew where the kittens were, but that she became extremely distressed and was in a visible state of panic. The two subsequently went into the nearby woods, where Banner began circling around a cardboard box, inside which were the kittens.
Speaking of Banner’s discovery of the kittens, owner Whitney Braley said:
“I don’t even know how Banner knew they were in there. The kittens were freezing and weren’t meowing or anything.
I think they were pretty close to death. They only looked around a day old.
It makes me sick that anyone could do that to these tiny innocent animals. It’s so cruel and heartless.”
However, Banner’s maternal instinct soon became clear…
“She won’t leave their side. You can see her watching them all the time and counting them to make sure they’re all still there.
The kittens are really lucky. If she didn’t find them, there is no way they would have made it.
It makes me feel sick to think someone just left them out to die like that.
But I’m so happy that now because of Banner, these kittens will go on to live their lives with loving families. It warms my heart.”
The kittens are now in good health and are settling into their new home with Banner and Whitney. You can follow Banner on Instagram here.
