It can be pretty daunting having to book a holiday and knowing you will have to leave your furry friends behind. At Tailster, we like to think we have all of your leaving-pet-behind worries covered. Here are some handy tips so that both you, and your pet, can relax while you’re away.
Our message feature allows you to exchange contact details and have a meet and greet before any money is taken. Here, you can discuss any special requirements. Having a meet and greet is also a great way to make sure everyone feels comfortable and happy before the care takes place. You will be able to see how the carer interacts with your pet and also how your pet reacts with them. That way, you know your pet will be in the best possible hands while you are away.
It is also a great idea to have a meet and greet with the carer’s resident pets. If a carer has a boisterous dog or a cat that dislikes your pet, it’s safe to say they aren’t the best option. Meeting up with any resident animals is a great way to make sure that they all get on and you never know, your pet may have found their new best friend!
Before you leave, make sure the carer has lots of information about your pet. This might include their usual routine, dietary requirements, sleeping habits and toilet habits. Without highlighting what time your pet has to go to the toilet or when it’s time for their food to your carer, this may really unsettle them during your time away.
Leave any comfort toys, chews or blankets that they have so that they can feel close to you while you are away. Some pets may have an old sock, or an old chewed up toy that they always have close to them or in their bed. Making sure that your pet has something that will remind them of their home life with you, will help to make sure your pet is comfortable when they are not with you.
Last but not least, you should book through Tailster. This will give you access to all of our features and your carer will be able to download and use our exclusive app. This app can track any walks that your carer may have with your dog as well as sending photo updates to show you how much fun your pet is having. Once booked in, the insurance will be in place. We hope that you never have to call on our insurance policy – but it’s there as back up for extra peace of mind!
