It’s always frowned upon if you don’t have the courtesy to pick up your dog’s poo and leave a pile of steaming mess behind.
It seems though, that Boston Borough Council have taken it one step further – they can now penalise dog owners even before any offence is committed, simply because a dog walker isn’t carrying poop bags to clean up their dogs mess.
Under the proposed Public Space Protection order, which may be introduced in early 2017, dog mess related fines will be doubled from £50 to £100.
A person is deemed to be committing an offence if a dog goes for a number two and the owner fails to pick up the mess. Police community support officers previously had to wait for your dog to do the dirty deed, but under new plans, it seems action can be taken before your dog has even let rip!
George Barnard, the council’s head of operations, said under the order “any authorised officer or PCSO can approach anyone walking their dog and check they have the means to pick up”.
This comes after the Barking and Dagenham borough announcement to shame people who fail to pick up the poop, with canine photofits to be put up in public places and published in local newsletters. The computer generated image of the offenders were to be created based on the DNA taken from samples.
What are your thoughts about this? How would you feel if someone could simply approach you and ask if you had the bags in your pocket, before anything had happened?! Share your thoughts in the comments below.
