Dog abandoned at station gets flood of new home offers

Meet Kai: an adorable Shar Pei cross breed who was found tied to railings outside a station in Ayr, Scotland. The cute pup was abandoned there with his own little suitcase filled with pillow, toys, food bowl and food.

The SSPCA have been appealing for information to try and find the culprit who left poor Kai outside the station all alone.

When Kai’s microchip was scanned he was traced back to a previous owner who stated they had sold him on Gumtree in 2013.

A woman has now come forward who claims she had planned to buy Kai from a Gumtree seller. When Fin Rayner arrived to pay the £400 for the dog, Kai looked different to the dog in the Gumtree pictures. Allegedly, the Gumtree seller then took £150 of Fin’s money and drove off, leaving her with the dog.

Ms Rayner then tied Kai up outside the station and left him there – while she headed back home with her 9 year old daughter.

Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone who is caught abandoning an animal could be banned from keeping pets for life.

Despite his traumatic experience, within a few hours of his story being reported, the SSPCA received over 100 calls and requests from all over the world offering to give Kai a brand new home – now that is a happy ending!

Thanks to an appeal by the SSPCA over £2500 has been raised to take care of Kai, who is now awaiting an important eye operation.
