‘Clear The Shelters’ Campaign Re-Homes Over 10,000 Pets

We hate the thought of any animals being left without homes, but it is in fact a sad reality for many former-pets across the world.

The recent heatwave has brought about an increase in the number of animals that have been abandoned globally, with desperate owners dumping their pets when they couldn’t cope with the burden, putting them in a position of danger.

Whilst animal charities issued a desperate plea to owners to take their unwanted pets to shelters, venues are often unable to match the demand, resulting in an unfortunate number of animals being euthanised due to a lack of resources.

The annual ‘Clear The Shelters’ campaign, run by US TV stations NBC and Telemundo, brings together animals shelters across the US and has encouraged the adoption of over 10,000 abandoned pets.

2018 marked the initiative’s fourth year, bringing together over 1,200 shelters and offering discounted or zero adoption fees.

Whilst some have raised concerns that the low costs could encourage animals to be adopted into lesser quality homes, the campaign has instead created a social media storm, raising awareness of the desperate state of animals shelters across the world.

So far, it has been reported that the initiative has helped to re-home over 10,000 animals, with the awareness raised expected to help many more.

Here are just some of the animals that have been re-homed through the ‘Clear The Shelters’ campaign, as well as proud owners with their new pets…
