The African Painted also known as the African wild dog or hyena dog are extremely rare and even considered endangered. The African painters are great hunters and are highly social animals. They live in packs and have separate dominance hierarchies for males and females.
One of the most rare and unique dog breeds in the world, the Xoloitzcuintli, or Xolo (“sho-lo”) for short, has been around for a very long time – archaeologists would date them 3500 years! Commonly known as the Mexican naked dog they have a calm and loyal disposition.
Catahoula Leopard Dog
The often multi-coloured or spotted Catahoula Leopard Dog is believed to be the first dog bred in the United States. It was named after Catahoula Parish in Louisiana and was traditionally used to hunt wild boar.
This unique breed comes from Thailand and sports a strip of hair that grows in the opposite direction to the rest of the coat which is how they get their ridgeback name. Thai Ridgebacks are independent and escape artists.
This type of dog comes from breeding German shepherds with Carpathian Wolves. An experiment made by the Czech military to create a better kind of working dog. It is now the national breed of Slovakia and they have learnt to easily live with families and other domesticated animals.
These dogs are truly unique thanks to their deadlocked hair. These dogs have a strong work ethic and are often used for helping with livestock. They are also extremely smart.
