Cats. Most people love them, I mean they literally are the internet. We decided it was time to show just how awesome cats are! Not only are they cute fuzz balls with an attitude but they're pretty amazing and clever too.
1. The Egyptians weren't the first to domesticate cats
Most people believe that the Egyptians domesticated cats to control the population of rats, who were wreaking havoc with their crops - but a cat was recently discovered in a 9,500 year old grave in Cyprus. That grave is over 4,000 years older than the oldest Egyptian artefact depicting cats. It's clear that we've loved them as humans for quiet a long a time!
2. A Cat made it in to space
On October 24th 1963, a cat named Félicette was sent into space by France, she survived the journey and was safely recovered from a capsule that fell back down to earth.
3. Our brains are similar
When compared to dogs, a cats brain is more biologically similar to ours. Cats and humans both have identical regions in the brain that control things like emotion.
4. Cats give you dead mice and other animals...
Because they think you're a crap hunter. I'm sure you've heard this one before as it's pretty well known but cats really do think you're a big cat who can't cope. So they're totally showing you how it's done.
5. Postman Cat?
In 1879, Belgium post tried to use cats... to deliver mail. It didn't work out as intended and the mail wasn't delivered.
6. It's a real job!
The Government has a position called "Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office" that can only be given to a cat, there is also similar roles for the Foreign Office and other government buildings. The cats have been brought in to control the rat population in and around the buildings they call home.
7. Cats can drink seawater...
Yes. We know. If only humans had the ability to - our lives would be totally different! Cats kidneys have the ability to filter out the salt in seawater, while we lack the ability to. Cats: 93 Humans: 0
8. Adult cats only meow at humans.
Adult cats have no reason to meow, as cats communicate through body language. It's why cats have evolved the ability and need to talk to us. The frequency of their meows could also be manipulating us to feed them and do as they please, in some studies it's been suggested that cats train their human companions pretty early on.
9. Just one perk from owning a cat
Owning a cat can reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack by a third. It's why they're essential to life, right?
10. Cat's sleep a lot, and it makes us jealous.
By the time a cat is 9 years old, it has only been awake for 3 years of its life! I mean, you can totally see why we're jealous.
