Scientists have proven that, genetically, dogs are smarter than cats, and one dog in Spain has shown just how intelligent he actually is.

Poncho, the Spanish police dog, leapt to save the life of his police human as the officer 'collapsed' during training. In footage shared on Twitter, Poncho can be seen putting his training into action, performing lifesaving CRP on the officer until he is 'revived'.

The dog's skill was recorded as part of a public demonstration of the invaluable work that service dogs do, with the audience erupting into applause at Poncho's rapid response. More impressively, he was in no way fazed by the noise of the crowd, focussing only on the task at hand.

Tweeting a video of the dog performing CPR, the Policia de Madrid wrote:

‘Heroic’ performance of our #Compañerosde4Patas Poncho, who did not hesitate for an instant to ‘Save the Life’ of the agent, practicing #RCP in a magisterial way.

They then signed off the tweet with a quote from 19th century American humorist, Josh Billings, who said that "The dog is the only being in the world that will love you more than you love yourself."

The video has been shared over 10k times, and has over 20k likes so far, and it's not hard to see why. They're called 'man's best friend' for a reason, and Poncho is a fine example of just another way that we rely on our dogs as much as they do us!
