Parks and open spaces in Aylesbury
As you probably already know, Buckinghamshire is known for it’s rolling green countryside and beautiful scenery.

Vale Park is Aylesbury’s main, central park. It even has it’s very own swimming pool and cafe so fun for all the family after a leisurely walk round the extensive parkland with your pooch.
Coombe Hill is one of Aylesbury’s National Trust locations. With 106 acres of land, the Hill is 852 feet above sea level and is the highest viewpoint of the Chilterns. Not only are the views beautiful, there is a huge array of wildlife to see as you’re wandering. There are over 30 species of wildflower and 28 species of butterfly. In the summer there are also cows that graze on the grassland (so it might be a time for on-lead walking when they are in sight). There is free parking and the nearest train station is Wendover.
As well as a large children’s play area, there is also large open space with trees and well maintained grass to allow your dog to run and chase to his heart’s content. There is some, but limited, car parking at the community centre so it might be a good place for you if you’re within walking distance.
Meadowcroft Open Space is attractive for its green space that forms the Riverside Walk. This is the perfect place if you and your dog like to be down by the water. There is again ample space for picnics and ball games if you want a family day out. Alternatively the river walk is perfect for a quiet sunday morning stroll. There is lots of parking here so you don’t have to worry about being within walking distance to get there.
Cottesloe park offers a large open space with a well maintained grass area. A hard surfaced path winds through the play space and across the open space providing a link between Churchill Avenue and Fremantle Road.The new Multi-use games area has been funded through a £35,000 grant from SITA Trust Enhancing Communities Programme. This, together with £18,000 from developer contributions, has enabled the £53,000 project.

Rescue Centres and Shelters
Blackberry Farm is a 10-acre site overlooking the rural villages of Waddesdon and Quainton in Buckinghamshire. They are two minutes from the A41 between Aylesbury and Bicester. The rescue centre has 20 rehoming kennels and 34 cat rehoming pens. These areas are open to the public so that you can go and meet any potential pets. Not only do they have cats and dogs, they also rehome small animals and farm animals too. So you really can find your ideal pet. As well as rehoming animals, the centre also runs dog training classes – these are basic, intermediate and advanced courses, agility and trick training.
Founded in 1963, this fantastic organisation has rehomed over 18,000 dogs. The rescue refuses to have any of the dogs in it’s care put to sleep except for extreme medical reasons or irreversible behavioural concerns. In 2009, after years of hard work by many many supporters the Society finally achieved its dream of buying its own premises in Chivery, near Tring. In July 2013 planning permission was obtained to build a new Rescue Centre to create a Centre of Excellence for rescue and rehoming. Construction work started in October 2014 and we moved into our purpose built Rescue Centre in May 2017.
Stokenchurch Dog Rescue is an entirely independent and self-supported registered charity. Set up by local residents in 1963 to save stray, abandoned and unwanted dogs the rescue receives no official funding and are totally reliant reliant on donations and the fund raising efforts of their volunteers. Thousands of dogs have successfully been rehomed due to this wonderful centres non-destruct policy.
SDR have 41 bright, modern and comfortable rooms for the dogs in their care that have a variety of toys and comfy dog bedding so the residents feel right at home until their new family comes along!
