If you have a walking or an ongoing booking with us then there’s no need to worry about leaving cash on the table each week, we’ll handle it all for you with one simple weekly online transaction.

If you have a booking coming up but it’s not for a while – please do call us on 0208 004 0860 to discuss the possibility of organising spread payments so you secure your preferred sitter early without a one lump sum payment.

As a carer:

Tailster Pet Spotlight: Meet Amelia!

Name: Amelia
Job Title: Chief Food Tester
Age: 1 year and 6 days
Breed: Huskador – Husky X Labrador Retriever

Amelia doing a Sploot.

The fun bits

Likes: Belly rubs, food, sploots and attention. She loves belly rubs and has since she was a small puppy, literally exposing her belly to anyone who shows even a slight amount of attention. Food is also another love – but she is also a very fussy eater.. if its human food she will eat it without question. Attention is another big one, be it the attention of humans or other dogs. She LOVES other dogs!

Dislikes: Baths. All you have to say is “bath time” and she disappears. She has to have a bath though much to her annoyance! Once she’s in the bath she enjoys herself. Strange.

Amelia’s Story

Amelia joined my life at 8 weeks old and was from an accidental litter of a friend’s. I still remember walking into the kitchen and seeing this little thing jump at me and wanting me to pick her up, I fell in love instantly and needed her in my life. When she was 8 months old someone stole her from my mothers garden while she was looking after her, after nearly 3 and half weeks and a vast social media campaign – she was found nearly an hour and a half away in a totally different part of the Midlands! The police are still dealing with the crime but the motive was suspected breeding – A fate I feared and didn’t want her to face. Thousands of people were over the moon when she returned home and as a result, she is a small social media star in Birmingham with people still in shock when they meet her when I return home. Now she’s back she is ready to change the pet care industry with her dad by her side and comes to the office nearly every day – for both play fights with Bradley and hugs from other Tailster staff!

Nap time! Sleep is really important.

It’s International Dog Day!

It’s International Dog Day and of course, we are celebrating at Tailster HQ! It’s one of the best days of the year by far, so what have you got planned? We thought we’d give you some tips on how to spend your day celebrating all things dog.

1. Throw a party, for all the dogs in your life.

We totally recommend throwing a dog party, invite your friends and their pups round. Celebrate it in style by making some dog treats (we have a quick recipe below!). Get some dog toys, balloons and treats and you’re ready to go. If you’re feeling extra fancy grab some dog beers too!

2. Donate to an animal charity

Today is not just about celebrating but remembering that our best friend’s still need some help. Donate to the RSPCA, Dog’s Trust or other animal charity. It’s time to remember those dogs who don’t have it as amazing as ours. Any amount, big or small would help them keep doing the vital work they do.

3. Make some treats for your dog (or for that party)

This easy none bake recipe will definitely get the party started.

Peanut butter cookies

What you’ll need:

380g of Rolled Oats
128g of Sweet Potato or Pumpkin (puree will work too).
60g of Peanut Butter
A Splash of coconut milk or water

  1. Set aside around 70g of the oats for later use. Put the potato (or pumpkin), oats and peanut butter into a bowl. You can do this with a fork or a mixer, you want the dough to be firm if the dough is a bit crumbly add the water or coconut milk until its firm. The dough should not stick to your hands.
  2. Make small balls and roll them in the remaining oats.
  3. Freeze for a couple of hours – and you’re all set!

4. Send us pictures of your dog party, or just spam us with pics of dogs!

We LOVE seeing pictures of dogs. They make our day – we’d love to see what you planned, if you made the treat above or threw a party. Simply, post your pictures to our Facebook wall (www.fb.com/tailstercom) or send them to us by email info@tailster.com – we might even send you a little surprise through the post.

We’d like to wish everyone a happy National Dog Day!

Tailster Pet Spotlight: Meet Duke!

The boring bits

Name: Duke aka: aka Dukeface aka Dukington aka Poopington aka Duky aka Ducky aka Friend.
Job Title: Cheif Wagologist
Age: 3 on September 1st (he has a cake on order!)
Breed: Um.. nobody actually knows! We think a GSP (german shorthaired pointer cross – but it could be anything! I’d actually love to hear anyone’s suggestions if they have any??

The fun bits

Likes: FOOD. Any kind of food! But peanut butter, carrot and raw bones are his treats of choice. Squeaky toys (the noisier the better much to his humans annoyance) and long walks – being such a big lump (at 32kg!) means Duke needs plenty of exercise to keep him lean and not barrelling around the house like a looney! Our Tailster dog walker does a fantastic job of taking him on very long walks with her little pack to tire him out when i’m busy in the office here at Tailster HQ.

Dislikes: Some unfamiliar men.. Due to Duke’s background they can make him a bit skittish which leads to lots of loud barking – poor guy! Being told to get down from the sofa, and waiting too long for his breakfast and dinner to be provided.

Dukes Story

Then
In the beginning, when Duke was just a tiny baby dog on the streets of Valencia, Spain he was picked up by the dog catchers and impounded to Hellin Perrera which is a kill shelter. There he stayed on the list to be euthanized until a wonderful UK charity who have contacts in Spain spotted him and paid to release him and put him in foster care until he was fit and healthy enough to come to the UK to be rehomed. Duke had, unfortunately, contracted parvo and was very poorly for a while. He then arrived in the UK a couple of months later.

After losing my first ever dog and best friend, Max, I decided one day to visit a rescue “just to have a look”. I looked around and had my eye on this tiny sausage dog cross but as I went to enquire, someone had reserved her! In the kennel next door was a little skinny Duke trying to climb up to the door to say hi. I put my fingers through the bars to let him have a sniff and have his nose a little boop! A lady from the rescue asked me if i’d like to take him for a walk as he was due to go out anyway so i said of course! And the rest… well the rest is history. As soon as we got him outside he was such a kind, sweet, gentle soul. I gave him a hug, he smiled and that was the end of his kennel days. I went to pay a deposit there and then.

Now
We’ve come a long way – overcoming fears and forming an incredible bond. Duke has done soo well and I couldn’t be a prouder pet-parent! He tackles the busy London tube with confidence, has adapted to our new house move so quickly and I promise he enjoys all the cuddles, treats and walks you could imagine!

Anyone that knows Duke will tell you he is the sweetest, most affectionate soul you will ever come across – I can’t thank that lady at the rescue enough. #adoptdontshop

How Adopting Bunnies Changed This Woman’s Life Forever

Marley-Belle Quaid’s story isn’t something you read every day. It all started when she saw a post about two neglected bunnies posted by the RSPCA – these bunnies, Woodstock & Wilfred, were in dire need of a new home and had been badly neglected, needing frequent brushing and clipping to live the rest of their lives with dignity.

“The first time I saw them, I knew I would do whatever it took to have them in my life,” Quaid said. “The pair were rescued by the RSPCA but spent a year in foster care because no one wanted the hard work it takes to keep them groomed and tidy. Although I had help day to day, I didn’t know how I was going to manage doing it myself when no one was there because of my wrists, but I wanted to make it work.”

Marley-belle was worried she wouldn’t be able to take care of them, after a series of operations on her wrists she was unable to use her hands. Due to this she wasn’t able to use her crutches anymore and had to rely on her wheelchair. Her doctors suggested physiotherapy in the hope that it would lead to her regaining some mobility in her hands – it didn’t seem to work and she was on the verge of giving up.

Marley-Belle knew it was going to be tough adopting both of them, she had to figure out how to care for them but something convinced her to give it a go. She went ahead and adopted both Wilfred & Woodstock and started the daily task of grooming and caring for them, she did it day in, day out even though it was incredibly difficult for her. Her perseverance paid off and over time her hands and wrists began to heal.

Marley-Belle with Woodstock & Wilfred.

“Within six months, I had full, malleable wrists; I was grooming Wilfred and Woodstock by myself on my own lap and I could use scissors again. My surgeon was quite astounded I had the use that I had with my wrists again. These bunnies were a massive part of my recovery.”

Thanks to both Woodstock and Wilfred, Marley-Belle no longer has to use a wheelchair and is now using her crutches. Both rabbits are being spoilt, as expected, and have full reign of the house – they also have their own bedroom packed with toys and furniture.

“Before, I had to use my wheelchair all the time, because I couldn’t use my hands to grip my crutches,” Quaid said. “That meant there were shops I couldn’t go into or places I couldn’t get to because I needed my crutches. Woodstock and Wilfred have given me so much more than love; they’ve given me independence and freedom.”

Tailster’s Top 20 Dog Names!

Here at Tailster HQ we are introduced to lots of new dogs every day. And though we haven’t necessarily been counting, some names just keep popping up. That gave us an idea… Why don’t we use our magic list making powers to create a post about the 20 most popular dog names we see here at Tailster.

Will your doggo make the list? If they have, give us a shout at what number they came.

20. LUCY

With a grand total of 35. We have 35 dog’s with the name Lucy using the service!

Did you know that Lucy the Golden Retriever was Blue Peter’s resident dog from 22nd February 1998 – April 2011.

19.  GEORGE

There are 36 George’s on our books and that number just keeps on growing.

18.  BUDDY & JACK

The race is on to see who will overtake first. We have 38 of these two great names.

19. BARNEY and ROSIE

Another tie between two names! We have 39 dog’s with either of those names.

Barney-20040908.jpg
Interestingly, Barney was the name of the Scottish Terrier that lived in the White House with the 43rd President of the United States.

16. MARLEY

This surprised us here at HQ because of how much we love the film Marley and Me! There are 42 Marleys according to our data.

15. LUNA & ARCHIE

You can start seeing a pattern here, with a total of 43 each both Luna and Archie have won this spot.

_92378174_new2.jpg
We definitely thought they be a few more of these two wonderful names. Did you know that the Boxer in the in last years John Lewis Christmas advert was Buster. I wonder how many of ours are Boxers too?

10. MOLLY

With a grand total of 53 dogs called Molly, it is a firm favorite of Tailster users.

pri_38036349.jpg
Maybe the cutest fact you’ll read today.. There was a farm dog named Molly who became a foster mum to two orphaned piglets until they were old enough to leave and live at a petting zoo.

9. BAILEY

Bailey wins the 9th spot, with 54. We love the name Bailey here, it’s such a fitting name.

8. DAISY

A bit more a jump to 62, Daisy is in 8th place. Another very pretty name to add to the list.

5e3643385ba9187eb938e67b19054531.png

Again, another pretty name for 65 of the dogs we help to find care for.

We’re now down to the top 5 most popular names at Tailster. If you haven’t seen your dog’s name so far, they might be in the last 5 in our list?

5. OSCAR

Oscar starts our top five with 69. Although Oscar is our 5th top dog’s name, it is actually the number one cat name in the UK this year.

Stryker’s Pose To Freedom.

Shelters in the US are totally different to here in the UK – according to the ASPCA around 670,000 dogs are put to sleep every year in the USA, most of them are healthy and simply weren’t adopted. But organizations are now challenging this and hundreds of rescue groups who dedicate both their funds and time to saving healthy dogs from being put to sleep are popping up. They’re on a mission to save as many dogs as possible!

Meet Stryker, a beautiful 10-month-old bluetick coonhound. He was taken in by a high-kill shelter in South Carolina. Everyone fully expected him to be snapped up or claimed within days of being there, I mean, look at how cute he is!

But it didn’t happen and he was at risk of being put to sleep. Luckily for him, his picture online got the attention of just the right person. Mia, a board member with All Breed Rescue Vermont, who fell in love with his ears!

All Breed Rescue Vermont is a volunteer-run group that is on a mission to save dogs from being euthanized. How? By finding them loving homes in the north east. The rescue works with high-kill shelters the most, it’s how Strykers picture came to their attention. If it wasn’t for their work, he may not be alive right now.

How did Stryker ride away in style? Well, they weren’t so sure how Stryker would do in the car. After all, he is a stray and no one really knew what life he lived before being taken to the shelter involved.

But luckily for them, Stryker’s clear quirky personality began to shine through.  The picture below speaks volumes, he was riding away in style.

“Stryker is feeling fine on his freedom ride,” the group posted. “We love him already.”

He has since arrived in Vermont and has found his furever home! We love you Stryker!
